I broke my Ankle 12th April 2014

My sisters 67th birthday was on Saturday 12th and I tried to contact her but as usual got no reply.

Angie and I had arranged to go for a walk with Matt and Tor in Thetford Forest. We took the dogs and it was pleasant with a go on a huge tube slide.

After the walk Tor and I went on a big swing and I had a bad break and broke my ankle. Problem was I didn’t realise it until later when Angie took me to the hospital.

Not a good end to the day.

Mothering Sunday

Last night the clocks went forward one hour giving us lighter evenings.
Today is mothering Sunday. Angie and I went to church and it was a good service with teaching from Louise. Louise has been teaching on why Jesus had to die over the last few weeks. It’s useful to listen to the podcast from the website (www.wsvc.org.uk )
As we left church we were given bunches of daffodils to give to someone. Angie didn’t want to do this and so I went to two of our neighbours and have them the flowers and an invite to our Easter events. Personally I doubt they will come but it would be great if they did.
After the service we rushed home as Angie’s children were coming to cook lunch.
Josh and Anna arrived first and Josh and I started work on changing the front disks and pads on Angie’s smart car. While we were doing that Matthew and Tim arrived and started preparing lunch of gammon steaks, corn on the cob, asparagus, curly chips and mange tout followed by frozen cheese cake.
While it was being prepared and after Josh and I had finished Angie’s car we sat and watched the Malaysian Grand Prix which Lewis Hamilton won for Mercedes.
After lunch everybody went for a dog walk (except me).
When the Dog walk was done Matt and Tim left and Josh and Angie left a little later.
The day was coming to a close.

2014 01 11 Life is a struggle

Life is a struggle at the moment. Angie and I have issues which we are trying to deal with but today while talking together she said she felt our relationship had failed.. We are with help of the Vineyard trying to deal with the issues but I am concerned we are on a slippery road. Tomorrow we will be at Vineyard in the morning and I hope with the help of God we will find a way.

The local lunch

Today I am lunching with around 22 other people who were also members of the choir of St John’s college Cambridge. I anticipate a very large age group. We  are meeting at a pub called “5 miles from anywhere” in Upware near to  Cambridge. Most of the  organisation has been done by the Rev Christopher Robinson who was a member of the choir in the 50’s.
This is the fourth meeting of “the local lunch” and certainly the largest.

12.30 saw nine people come together for lunch at ” 5 miles from anywhere” in deepest Cambridgeshire.

Our group was made up of

Nan Guest
Alastair Roberts
Alex Riley
Christopher Goodwins and wife Doreen
Colin Shield
Francis Judd
Fabian Redpath
and myself.

We met and ate a very good value hearty lunch while looking out onto the river Cam. It was a first for a couple of people and I think everyone enjoyed them self.

It was good to meet old and new friends. Alex Riley told us he never hears anything from “College”. Perhaps one to add to your database Caroline. Alex has had an interesting life, ending up as a wine importer and living in Longstanton.

I understand John Bull was unwell and consequently his party of five didn’t make it, and Nan told us Jonathan Hellyer-Jones was also not feeling up to par and didn’t manage to join us. Martin Redfearn had intended coming but cried off as he had business to attend to in Cardiff….. Perhaps next time Martin?

Fabian Redpath told us he now lives in Greenwich and is in contact with half a dozen old friends from the 70’s and would be pleased to help organize a “London Local Lunch” at some time in the future

I will liase with Fabian and we will try to pull together a group for a lunch somewhere in London in the new year.

A big thank you has to go to Christopher Goodwins who took on the task of organising today and we were all pleased to see a 300% increase in attendance over our last meeting in Wicken Fen.

It was agreed that we would meet again at the same venue sometime towards the end of March/early April when if  weather permitted we would be able to eat outside on the riverside.

I will keep you updated and let you know of future events
