Today, as the Friday 13th London Lunch didn’t happen, Peter Ball, Alastair Roberts and Christopher Goodwins met for lunch in Wicken Village (http://www.maidsheadwicken.com/) . The weather was pleasant and the beer and white bait very acceptable………… Cost £4.95…..
LOCAL LUNCHES
- To provide a facility for former members of the College Choir, spouses, partners etc., to meet informally from time to time at a location suitable to them.
- To further an idea that this could be established via informal LOCAL LUNCHES. Suggested idea of a pie and a pint (rather than formal dinners at £70 a head!). Local Lunches initially to be piloted at selected pubs in locations within a radius of say 30 -35 miles from Cambridge to gauge take-up. If this is successful to then spread this throughout the country and, maybe eventually, even further a-field.
- Lunches would be very informal, inexpensive and a simple and pleasant way to get together and spend a couple of hours with past friends and colleagues and, indeed, to make new friends with an interest in the College Choir.
- Invitations would be kept within local areas, by email, or phone, with a website box somewhere to type in your postcode, to show where your nearest contact could be found.
- Acceptances could be cancelled at a moment’s notice (as no restaurant meals would need to be booked in advance). However, if numbers were substantial the pub would need some advanced notification.
- Once the idea had become established, we would hope that the College authorities would endorse and promote the Local Lunches scheme, and accept it as an official (expanding membership) part of the SJC Choir Association.
